Question: What was your inspiration for your shadowy conspiratorial organization that the book The Shop is termed for?

J. Carson Black: There has for ages been speculation--especially in thrillers--that secretive organizations have existed from the federal government--that there are black bag operations, often carried out in other countries.

Human nature being what it really is, it’s easy for me to picture people in power with the highest level planning all kinds of operations. Power corrupts, and if the resources are available, We have no doubt that something like The Shop could exist. All it might take can be individuals who are powerful enough that will put it in place, and also the operations could go as far as their imaginations would allow them to go. Throughout history, powerful people are making enormous mistakes, and also have corrupted capacity to their very own needs. I can picture the rich and powerful--the individuals who can command just about anything--coming up using the most hair-brained of schemes--and getting away with it. It’s much more about human nature than anything else.

Q: Do you imagine it's possible a business like The Shop could really exist?

She’s thorough and cares with what jane is doing. She cares regarding the young man whose death is on the center of her investigation. The child is gay, and she or he doesn’t want his death to go unremarked. She wants justice for him.
